After the Americans announced their withdrawal from Afghanistan in summer 2021, thousands of people tried to leave the country in panic. Dramatic scenes unfolded at the airport in Kabul. Images of the mass panic emerged via mobile phone pictures and spread quickly. A photograph published by the American photo agency Getty Images went around the world as a press photo. Kota Ezawa transforms this photo into his own visual language by means of digital processing. The story of the photo is depersonalised and iconised.
